I read this fragment of a poem by Dilip Chitre in the Daak substack
Sometimes when I see the whole stack of my poems, I am in despair.
Does awareness leave any residue in documents?
- Dilip Chitre
Tried googling for the entire poem. Didn’t find it. Obvious next step these days: chatGPT. Specifically Dall-e. It made this:
Nice try buddy. But seems to miss the point. Prodded it some more.
poem by Dall-e:
In the realm where words dare not tread,Lies a silence, deep and profound.A language unspoken, yet powerfully said,In the heart’s uncharted ground.
Feelings that flicker like shadows at night,Eluding the grasp of our speech. They dance in the corners, just out of sight,A truth that our words cannot reach.
Yet still, we try with our meager verse,To capture what lies in the soul.In each line and stanza, we subtly immerse,In the quest for an unattainable goal.
For the essence of feeling, so vivid, so vast,Defies the constraints of our art.Yet in trying, our words can, at moments, unmaskA glimpse of the depth of the heart.
Sure, close but juvenile, I thought. Try something more in the style of the impressionists
I despaired of capturing Chitre’s despair. Alright, still not giving up. Dear Dall-e, please…
sigh.
I give up.
